Jeri Royce Excited to Expand Esperança’s Services

Jeri Royce is a seasoned nonprofit executive with over 30 years of experience in local and national organizations. In 2017 she began her role as President & CEO of Esperança, a Phoenix-based organization dedicated to providing health education to the Arizona’s most at-risk populations while coordinating volunteer surgical missions and community development projects for communities in Bolivia, Ecuador, Mozambique, Nicaragua and Peru.

ThroughJeri’s leadership, Esperança has quickly and successfully adapted, enabling the continuation of services and addressing emerging needs brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Quick action fromJeri allowed Esperança to support hundreds of families in Nicaragua with emergency relief after the country was battered by hurricanes. $1.7 million in medical supplies was diverted to communities that needed it most in Arizona, Nicaragua and Papua New Guinea.

Meanwhile, in PhoenixJeri’s experience and foresight transitioned Esperança’s Spanish health classes to virtual without missing a beat, allowing this culturally appropriate knowledge to transcend borders to participants in California, Texas, New Mexico and Mexico. Additional support is also available to 600 low-income seniors in our state through door-to-door grocery distribution and one-on-one monthly emotional support calls.

In 2021,Jeri looks forward to the continued expansion of Esperança’s virtual preventative health education classes and bolstering international communities through agricultural trainings, water system and home building, and the return of volunteer surgical missions. “Esperança means hope. During the pandemic and long afterwards we will continue to be there for our communities at home and abroad in the ways needed most, the ways that inspire hope,”Jeri shared.

Outside of Esperança,Jeri inspires hope in the Valley by serving as a board member for the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and Love & Light Ministries, and as a long-time mentor to an at-risk teen with New Pathways for Youth.Jeri also teaches ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation, sharing her expertise in subjects like High Impact Leadership, Maximizing Human Potential, and Communicating with Purpose. Most recently,Jeri was named the 2020 Arizona Business Angels Nonprofit Executive of the Year by AZ Big Media.
